This project explores fermentation as both a conceptual and practical model for rethinking architectural practice. Responding to architecture’s entanglement with extraction, acceleration, and control, it proposes a shift toward relational, process-based, and caring modes of designing and building. Fermentation becomes a lens to value transformation, cooperation, and the agency of matter over stability, efficiency, or singular authorship. Grounded in feminist theory, new materialism, and process philosophy, the research understands knowledge as situated and embodied, emerging through encounters, collaboration, and material experimentation rather than abstract planning. Through practice-based inquiry and collective making, the project tests how architectural processes can be shaped by slowness, responsiveness, and mutual dependency. It ultimately reframes architecture as a living, evolving cultural practice: one that listens, adapts, and “ferments” with its materials, contexts, and communities.
